Siglinda & Maryna’s story:
Maryna & Siglinda met each other 10 years ago while studying in Stellenbosch. They became friends and one year later (to the surprise of both of them) they fell in love. Maryna left for London soon after and they successfully braved a long distance relationship for 2 years until Siglinda finished her studies and joined Maryna in London. After 2 amazing years together in London they decided to return to SA and Siglinda (who is originally from Namibia) decided to move to Cape Town where they moved in together.
After 7 years they decided to get engaged. The rings were designed and put away until it was time for the engagement. Siglinda volunteered to be the one to ask the big question. Naturally Siglinda was nervous to say the least as she never really envisioned ever having to ask someone to get married. In addition to the usual nerves of planning an engagement, Siglinda also had to hide it from her best friend and do all the preparation and planning in secrecy from Maryna. On 24 October 2009 Siglinda and an unsuspecting Maryna arrived at Cape Sidecar Adventures and spent the day travelling to Cape point in a WWI chauffeured sidecar motorcycle, after which they spent the night in the Twelve Apostles Hotel. After a romantic dinner Siglinda proposed to Maryna in their picture perfect suite overlooking the ocean. Siglinda planned her engagement speech for months but when the big moment arrived the only words she could get out was “would you marry me?” which was after all the most important words.
“After being together for 9 years our big day finally arrived. It was the most unforgettable day of our lives as we truly had the fairytale wedding we had always dreamed of. There were of course some additional logistical items to arrange such as; which bride will walk down the aisle first, will we see each other’s wedding dresses beforehand and all the duplicate items required for 2 brides such as 2 x dresses, 2 x wedding cars, 2 x bridal makeup & hair etc which was interesting and a lot of fun planning! At the end of the day we had the most beautiful and special wedding day which; like any wedding was a breathtaking celebration of two people’s unconditional love and commitment to each other (with the exception that there were 2 beautiful brides J).”
